The Latest Wuthering Waves Tier List of Resonators

Why Do We Need a Wuthering Waves Tier List?

Wuthering Waves (WuWa) is a beautiful open-world RPG that resembles the blockbuster Genshin Impact. It’s a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi world with relentless combat combined with rich storytelling on a sprawling scale. You will play the role of the “Rover” an amnesiac explorer, and build teams from powerful allies called Resonators. Each of those Resonators has very unique personality, backstory, and element to make them really stand out. That is why the BandurArt team decided to create the Wuthering Waves tier list.

The Resonators are not mere characters but warriors with special elemental abilities. Each Resonator will use swords, pistols, and gauntlets. Some of them can give the worst attack, while others act as strong pillars to protect and heal.

Across Wuthering Waves’ open world, Resonators have different roles, like:

  • Main DPS – the heavy hitters;
  • Support – the healers and buffers;
  • Sub-DPS – deal extra damage on the side;

Well, with so many characters, it gets very confusing. Who is the best at leading the charge? Who’s the perfect backup? And that’s where a Wuthering Waves tier list becomes a mush-have thing, especially for novices.

Wuthering Waves Tier List

The game is always adding new Resonators with complex sets of kits and abilities. An updated tier list for Wuthering Waves can show you the changes of tiers and tell about who is worth a spot on your team after a new update. If you want to create the best possible team, knowing who stands at the top of WuWa Resonators is a game-changer.

About WuWa Characters – Resonators and Their Classes

It’s an ever-growing universe, and with this recent 1.3 update, it gets even more convoluted and interesting. There are well over 20 Resonators as of September 2024. Each Resonator has a different elemental affinity, a different weapon, and a role that usually tells something about the contribution of their skills to your team. They belong to such classes as Unknown, Huang Long, Black Shore, and Others.

Then the 1.3 update came along, adding the roster 2 new characters. These Resonators shall add even more depth to an already diverse cast of playable characters.

Characters in Wuthering Waves belong to different factions and classes. Each of the classes has a unique lore and set of skills (both passive and active). To learn more about every class you can read the Reddit thread.

Before explaining our choice on the best tier list in Wuthering Waves it is worth giving you a glimpse on the basic stats for all playable Resonators as of update 1.3.

Wuthering Waves Resonator Tier List – From Best to Worst

Just like with our previous Losk Ark tier list, we use the same system with S-to-D tiers to define the best and worst playable characters in the following Wuthering Waves tier list.

S-Tier Resonators:

  • Jinhsi. Jinhsi is amongst the most powerful DPS, thanks to the burst damage. She can unleash devastating Spectro attacks. She is good for bosses and high-level content because she has so much burst damage stored up in her abilities. Her Incadescence state, paired with her Spectro nuke ultimate, makes her unmatched as a damage dealer;
  • Verina. While Verina is considered the ultimate supporter. Her healing skills and protection add so much to any team. What is great about her Grace of Life passive is how life-saving it is. She saves allies from lethal damage while her coordinated attacks add up a decent amount of healing;
  • Yinlin. Really an important part of the team because she’s a hybrid DPS supporter. The Electro buffs and the Zapstring puppet amplify her and her teammate’s damage. She’s a perfect pairing with Electro DPS characters, not to mention she provides great value even off-field;
  • Changli. Changli’s versatility puts her in the S-tier. Capable of performing the roles of main and sub-DPS, Changli can unleash colossal amounts of Fusion damage with the right stacks. Quickswap playstyle and a great deal of burst make her a cornerstone in high-level teams;

A-Tier Resonators:

  • Jiyan. Jiyan is still one of the solid options for DPS with awesome AoE and control. He really is very straightforward to play. He does a constant damage output. Nevertheless, he lacks this raw burst damage that Jinhsi has, especially for the endgame content;
  • Encore. Encore focuses purely on damage, as she offers a very good Fusion DPS build. Her damage potential is quite impressive, but the squishiness and lack of crowd control keep her from the Wuthering Waves S-tier list;
  • Mortefi. Mortefi is a very strong sub-DPS, especially on Fusion-heavy teams, because of his consistent off-field damage. Additional heavy attack output from his coordinated attacks gives a consistent source of damage. But the overall use of this character is too limited to make him an S-tier character;
  • Sanhua. She is a perfect sub-DPS supporter of damage buffs to her teammates. She can deal significant damage with heavy attacks and have a great impact if used correctly. However, her reliance on precise timing keeps her from the top of our Wuthering Waves tier list;

B-Tier Resonators:

  • Calcharo. Calcharo is a great Electro DPS, especially with Yinlin. However, the nature of his combo-heavy gameplay leaves him often in a vulnerable spot during the long attack animations;
  • Rover (Havoc). Havoc is a relatively decent damage dealer and a versatile version of Rover, especially with his Dark Surge state. As for being a major protagonist, though, he certainly fits into “good but not great” shoes;

C-Tier Resonators:

  • Aalto. Aalto is a standard sub-DPS with Aero buffs to deal decently consistent damage. Because of the other stronger options available for sub-DPS, he tends to be the “budget” option, mostly for new players;
  • Chixia. Chixia is easy to use and great in the early game. But she falls behind quickly once players unlock better DPS characters. Because of the limited power scaling, she can’t keep up with late-game content;
  • Lingyang. Lingyang’s flashy Glacio-based moves are fun, but the damage output can’t hold a candle against some of the top-tier DPS units. Straight to the point, he gets outclassed in the challenging content;
  • Rover (Spectro). The Spectro form of Rover is quite versatile but gives Rover no particular specialization. It can be handy during the early phases but is just not good enough later;

D-Tier Resonators:

Taoqi surely has something going for her when it comes to defenses. But because of the lack of offensive skills and relying too heavily on a specific composition, she is pretty low in value. She’s great to have on the defensive side, but her damage skills are pretty low compared to others.

This is BandurArt’s version of WuWa’s best and worst Resonators. If you want to see more Wuthering Waves character tier list options, check the following website made by fans and for fans.

The Wuthering Waves 5-Star Tier List

In the comparison table below, we’ve covered that some Resonators are harder to get than others. They have the Rarity level of 5 stars. Generally, they are the best characters you can get in the game. But even the 5-star characters in WuWa differ a lot.

S-Tier – The Unstoppable Forces

Jinhsi beats the battleground with the highest burst damage from the Spectro element. Her skill set is great for bosses because she delivers huge and quick damage. The Incandescence state really ramps up her power.

Verina is, without a doubt, the best support character. She gives the passive Grace of Life to the allies, keeping them alive. And her healing and buffs always work with the whole team. The ease of use and powerful support make Verina the most important in any team build.

A-Tier – Powerful But Situational

It’s insane how flexible Changli is, being both main and sub-DPS. It’s in her Enflamement stack to unleash some powerful Fusion damage. The catch of using her well depends on how a player can juggle her abilities efficiently. She ranks high in the right hands but does take some time to master.

With AoE and great CC, Jiyan is pretty versatile which will make him much more of a solid DPS character. His pure burst potential is a bit lower than Jinxsi’s, and hence, he is less effective in a boss fight compared to other high-tier DPS characters.

Encore is one of the most powerful Fusion DPS available. She does considerable damage, especially during her Cosmos Rave state. However, she is also somewhat squishy and doesn’t provide much crowd control. She is less reliable for the harder content.

B-Tier – Average But Need Assistance

Calcharo. Even though Calcharo is a capable Electro DPS, his heavy reliance on combos and timing makes him very weak during these long animations. He can be quite formidable if supported correctly by the team but largely falls behind other characters when it comes to versatility and actual damage.

Jianxin’s combat with a parry base is very unique and effective against melee enemies. Still, she requires great skill from the player in timing the counters. She is good but relies on parrying, which can be a big liability during specific encounters.

Lingyang’s aerial fight is colorful, but he doesn’t have the same damage potential as other main DPS options. Usually, he struggles, especially in more endgame-challenging content, since he needs dedicated Glacio support.

This was the Wuthering Waves characters tier list for 5-star Resonators. All of them are awesome but some are just better. Watch the YouTube video where fans explain the differences after the update 1.3.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How to unlock new characters in Wuthering Waves?

New characters in Wuthering Waves are received through a certain gacha system “Convenes”. There are various kinds of banners: Novice, Event, and Standard. These banners make Resonators and weapons available with the in-game currency Astrite.

  1. What were the changes added in Wuthering Waves version 1.3?

The WuWa update 1.3 brought a few exciting things. Besides adding new characters such as Shorekeeper (a 5-star Spectro Rectifier) and Youhu (a 4-star Glacio Gauntlet) new weapons like the Stellar Symphony and Deep Sky Blazer were introduced. The update added a new region called Black Shores and Chapter 1 Act 8 storyline, a few Echoes and Phantom Echoes, multiple in-game events, and the compensation rewards.

  1. What gives me the best shot at pulling a 5-star Resonator?

The chance to pull a 5-star character is increased when participating in Wuthering Waves’ limited-time event banners. Event banners usually offer increased drop rates for their specified and highlighted characters. Use the pity system – when you do pulls and fail to get a 5-star character, after a certain number, it guarantees that you will get one. Save up enough Astrite to use during these events and maximize your chance of getting top-tier Resonators.

  1. Are there ways to get Resonators free of charge in Wuthering Waves?

Yes, Wuthering Waves offers a few ways to get Resonators free. Some of these characters, such as 4-star Resonators Baizhi and Sanhua, get an early game progress or limited events for logging in. Take, for instance, the event “Gifts of Thawing Frost”. After 5 days of continuous login, WuWa gives players a free copy of Sanhua. Festive, limited events, and in-game challenges are among the best ways to get the character drops free.
